Installation

  1. Test the page you would like to appear as a popup here (recommended as not all sites permit themselves to appear as a popup)
  2. Visit the Pagepopper App Store page and click "Add App" (and confirm when prompted)
  3. From the welcome page click "Start free trial" (and again, confirm details when prompted)

Creating a new Popup Widget

Firstly, obtain the full URL of the site you would like displayed in your popup:

  1. Navigate to the site using your browser
  2. Copy the full url of the site from the address bar, including the "https://" section. In Chrome this is done by:
    1. Clicking in the address bar to select the link
    2. In the menu, navigate to Edit > Copy

Then create a new Widget in Pagepopper:

  1. Open the Pagepopper app if you have not done so already (from your Shopify dashboard click "Apps" then find Pagepopper
  2. Under "widget url", paste your site url and click "Add Widget".

Your new widget should then appear, and you are ready to create a button for it using the steps below.

Creating a Sitewide Button

If you wish to create a button for your popup widget that appears on every page of your site (as shown in video above):

  1. Follow the steps above to create a new Popup Widget, and click on your widget name after it appears
  2. From the "My Widget Page", click the "Enable Sitewide" button

This will enable the sitewide popup button for your widget on your Shopify store. If you wish to tweak the buttons settings (such as text, color or position):

  1. Click "Edit Sitewide Settings"
  2. Adjust settings as required and click "Update Settings"

Adding your button to a Page, Product Description or Blog Post

If you wish to have a button for your widget in a Page, Product Description or Blog

Firstly, copy your embed code from the Pagepopper App:

  1. Follow the steps above to create a new Popup Widget, and click on your widget name after it appears
  2. From the "My Widget Page", click the "See Manual Embed Options" button
  3. Choose your desired style and text, and copy the embed code.

Then switch back to your Shopify dashboard and add the embed code:

    1. Open the page / product / blog post where you would like to have the popup link
    2. Switch from Rich Text to HTML editor by clicking the “<>” button
    3. Paste the embed code below at your chosen location and save changes.

Adding your popup button at a custom location*

*Recommended for experienced developers only (if you do not have experience editing the theme code directly it is recommended you seek an experts help)

If you wish to embed your popup button at a custom location that is NOT in a Page, Product Description or Blog Post, you will need to add it directly to your theme.

Next add this code somewhere in your current theme:

    1. Create a backup of you current theme: Navigate to themes by clicking Online Store > Themes, then in the Actions Menu of your current theme, find the duplicate button and click
    2. Once your backup has been created, open the theme editor by clicking the "edit code" button (again in the actions menu of your current theme)
    3. Navigate to the location where you would like the button embedded, paste code and finally save the theme file.

Why doesn't my site work with Pagepopper?

There are 3 main reasons a site may not work with Pagepopper:

    1. The site's developer has disabled it's ability to be embedded in a second site. This is the reason that site's like ebay and amazon do not work with Pagepopper, because their developers deliberately restrict this.
    2. The site is not a secure (https) site. These do not work because your Shopify site IS secure, and most modern browsers do not allow an insecure site to be displayed on the same page as a secure site
    3. The site gets confused about what size it should be. A popup window is a little bit smaller than the browser window, as as such often needs to be displayed using a smaller view than standard. A simple, responsive site should display fine, however if the site is using an alternative way of handling different browser sizes (such as mobile browsers), Pagepopper could get confused :(

    Uninstallation

    1. Delete any widgets you have created: From the App home page, click on the first widget to open the widgets settings page. Find the button "Delete widget"and click it. Repeat until all widgets have been removed.
    2. Uninstall App: Navigate to you main Apps page by clicking the "Apps" link in your Shopify dashboard. Find Pagepopper, click the trash icon to the right hand side of it, and confirm deletion.
